Finally finished the PacSec.jp dojo registration system last night. I'm really pleased with how the system keeps track of the combinations of courses and registrants - everything just works (for the most part). Rather than storing a session in the database, the datastructure representing registrants and courses is serialized and passed in the POST. There's some obvious complexity in this approach, but I think in many ways it is significanly simpler than trying to keep track of session. Originally my thought was to be all web2.0 ajaxy buzzword compliant and make a nice UI which will convince people to BUY BUY BUY.
All of which started me down the path of thinking about doing an RSS feed of our conference and courses linked back to the appropriate registration system link for purchase. I could be a really cool way of getting our conference stuff more visibility on feed aggregators and the like. Perhaps I'd better finish off the RSS stuff here before I get too ahead of myself though.
